Arts & EntertainmentBatavia offers summertime concerts in the parks, award-winning high school musical aggregations, and public concerts. Celebrity entertainers regularly appear at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in nearby St. Charles. The Norris Center often features the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. The Paramount Arts Center, located in Aurora, seats 1,888 people and gives Batavian's additional opportunities to see and hear internationally renowned stars. "The Paramount is a splendid example of the elaborate movie theatres that flourished in the years before World War II. Its original glory is fully restored and it brings to its stage the best talent available." Pheasant-Run resort in St. Charles is another popular place to go. Featuring award winning Broadway musicals, this enchanting arts center sets the stage for a romantic night out. The Batavia library offers much in the way of resources to those that take advantage of its wide selection of books and articles. Curl up with your favorite book in the fireplace room, or enjoy a coffee directly from the coffee shop. The libraries shelves contain nearly 119,000 books, 2,819 videos, and more than 5,172 audio recordings. The Loyalty Day Parade gathers downtown in May, and on the first Sunday in June the annual Mid-American Canoe Race begins. Crowds of people join along the Fox River to see the hundreds of canoes and kayaks speed by. The Fourth of July celebrations feature great music, good food, and fabulous fireworks. This celebration features the taste of Batavia. The Windmill City festival takes place in mid-July, which turns downtown Batavia into a carnival of fun. Octoberfest in Batavia features antique dealers, hay rides, games for the children, a beer garden, and German food. If you are a golfer there are as many as 14 courses in the Fox Valley area. Settler's Hill offers convenience with an 18 hole course and driving range. Prairie Landing, another public course, located in West Chicago offers a driving range, practice holes, and 18 holes of award winning greens. Downtown Batavia is Depot pond, which features the history of Batavia. The Riverwalk is also located downtown and follows alongside the river.
