Spring Cleaning TipsTo eliminate streaking while cleaning those windows, mix together dishwasher detergent and warm water. Use a sponge or squeegee to apply and then squeegee clean. Those windows with shine streak free! To clean the dirt that accumulates on "dimpled" kitchen floors wash with very hot water and a little ammonia or window cleaner. Let soak for three to five minutes then scrub with a stiff bristled brush or broom. Mop, rinse with more hot water, then mop again. Baking soda can be used to help clean many appliances. Use baking soda to clean and deodorize microwave ovens, stainless steal sinks, or freshen up the dishwasher by sprinkling beneath the bottom rack before your next load. Get those stains from a leaking faucet out of your sink! Mix cream of tartar with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and wipe them away! You can really make that glass tabletop shine by rubbing with a raw potato. Mist with water and polish. It's worth the effort - you won't believe how great it will look! To polish copper, rub an ample amount of catsup on the copper and let it stand for 5 minutes. Rinse off the catsup with hot water and dry to find an incredible shine. To freshen a garbage disposal sprinkle baking soda in it along with a few drops of dish-washing liquid. Scrub with a brush (a new toilet brush works great), getting under the rubber gasket and all around the inside. Then turn on water and the disposal and flush thoroughly. For a fresh citrus scent, throw in a few cut-up lemons or limes and run them through too, using a lot of water. To freshen a drain, pour ¼ to ½ box of baking soda down the drain, add ½ cup of white vinegar. Cover drain tightly for a few minutes and flush with cold water. Rub glass shower doors with a white vinegar-dampened sponge to remove soap residue. In the kitchen, use 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water mixed in a spray bottle to clean countertops, lightly soiled range surfaces and backsplash areas.
